I follow a simple roadmap for growing anything from infancy to a more mature state:

Welcoming autumn on today’s #equinox by spending time in the garden harvesting sunflower seeds.

I spent so much time this spring and summer planting, watering, caring for and enjoying the blossoms of these flowers. I experienced an abundance of joy and groundedness throughout every stage of growth.

I can’t help but see my resemblance in these flowers as I too have grown through the seasons. A result of careful handling, exploring the edges of my container, taking up more space each day and tending to my needs and desires.

I continue the cycle by harvesting gratitude for these gifts and reflecting on what I may want to do again or differently next year (inside and outside the garden).

How are you spending the first day of #autumn and what will you do to ensure your light continues to shine through the winter?

Two years ago today I resigned from a well paying, stable dream role because it felt out of alignment with what I valued. It was the best decision I ever made.

When I left, people asked me how I felt. The best word I could find to describe it was freedom.

🎯 Freedom to trust my intuition that something more aligned was out there.
🚀 Freedom to define my own version of professional success and achievement.
🛣️ Freedom to take a different career path than what was laid out for me.
🥰 Freedom to believe in my dreams and find a role and peers that allowed me to be fully myself.

Two years later, I’m proud to have prioritized and maintained that feeling of freedom in my personal and professional life. You won’t be surprised to learn that it feels AMAZING and I am the healthiest, happiest and most fulfilled I’ve ever been!

On the other side of this massive decision to align my life to what drives me, I’m living proof that the reward outweighs the risk when you honor your values and pursue the life you desire.

If you’re thinking about making a similar change, this is your sign to trust yourself and pursue the dream your heart is telling you is possible. Because it is possible, and it is better than you can even imagine.

Feeling safe is core to our wellbeing. But in stressful circumstances, such as experiencing change, safety can be the first thing that feels out of alignment.

Change is always happening around us, so how can we maintain a sense of safety in times of transition? When exploring ways that I feel safe, I was surprised to discover that feelings of safety come easily to me when considering external factors. I feel safe when I hold hands with my partner, cuddle my dog and when I’m surrounded by chosen family.

But recalling times where I feel safe on my own, without any external factors, I found much more difficult to conjure.

With intention and consistency, I discovered ways that I feel safety solely within myself: when I’m being playful and using my imagination 🤸‍♀️ , when I believe in myself 💪, when I write/share from my heart ❤️, when I reset my nervous system with a walk in nature and no screens 🍃 and when I’m in awe of my surroundings, present and aware of all my senses 👁.

Much like the people I serve, I didn’t always lead a life that aligned with my dreams and values. Before starting Chosen Directions I was living life on autopilot, repeating patterns of behavior that left me feeling drained. I was in a long-term relationship where I felt lonely. I was climbing the corporate ladder and beginning to burn out at work. I longed for my family that were 3,000 miles away.

I knew I needed to make a change but didn’t know how.

Supported by others and my dedication to self-development, I discovered my chosen values… and that unlocked EVERYTHING.

With my values as my guide, I had the roadmap to take steps towards the life I was always meant to be living:

💞 I left my relationship.
📦 I moved across the country to be closer to family.
🏡 I found my dream home.
😍 I met my fiancé.
💼 I quit my job and began consulting.
🌟 I became a certified coach.
🚀 I launched a business to help others transform their lives into ones that feel aligned to what they value most.

Because on the other side of a burnt bridge is alignment.

You’ll know when it’s time to burn a bridge. This unlinking from another person, job or situation won’t feel wrong. It will feel like freedom and peace.

It takes understanding yourself to speak up when you’re being mistreated, undervalued or overlooked. If you know exactly who you are and what you value, you’ll know exactly when to burn bridges.

When what’s on the other side of the bridge is out of alignment, it’s time to burn bridges to invite in abundance and new beginnings.

We’re almost halfway through 2024, how satisfied are you with your year so far and what are you prioritizing for the second half?

For me, I feel like my personal life is humming and I’m excited to continue to prioritize health and wellness in the second half of the year by maintaining my daily walks, conscious eating and meditation. I’m looking forward to growing my professional relationships, specifically looking to collaborate and connect (maybe even co-host an event?!) with other coaches and aligned organizations. Career related, I have a goal of writing for one hour a day to strengthen this muscle, while also working towards a long-form narrative version of my How to Live Authentically workbook.

I didn’t always love my job. It took over a decade of working and then burning out to discover what my ideal career could look like and take steps to make it a reality.

Raise your hand if your mind is running the show? 🙋🏻‍♀️

I’d raise a third hand if I had it. But, did you know there are actually four levels of holistic well-being – mental, emotional, physical and spiritual?

If you’re like me and feel like your mind is driving the ship, your mental level is likely your strongest. My mind loves to try and control everything – outcomes, people’s perception of me, getting “it” right – and striving for perfectionism.

This mental strength had served me in past professional roles, until it affected my health and led to burnout. With this acknowledgement, I’ve been on a journey from my head (mental) to my heart (emotional and spiritual). In order to be more balanced, I need to embrace who I am – compassionate, collaborative, curious and even a little silly – and let go of the need to control, perform and prove myself.

A few ways I honor my emotional and spiritual levels are by being present, feeling my emotions and making space for the answers to reveal themselves. For me that looks like:

💨Taking a few deep breaths
🐶Playing fetch with my dog
🌿Going for a walk in nature
🧘🏻‍♀️Practicing yin yoga and meditation
💜Thinking of the people I love and how they make me feel

So perhaps you are wanting to explore your well-being across the four levels, and understand what levels are feeling strong and explore levels that could use more focus? Ask yourself the following questions:

💪What level – mental, physical, emotional, spiritual – feels like your strength?
🔎What level can use more focus to help you move from coping to healing?
🌷What can you do in the next week to honor your level(s), especially the one(s) that can use more focus?
